bowl gaskets are not only for attaching the bowl to the bowl adapter. They also serve to give the bowl proper support and prevent smoke from escaping.
The bowl gasket is made of extremely elastic silicone and thus adapts perfectly to almost any fit.
They can also be visually integrated into the overall image of the pipe. The additional white accent at the top of the pipe can be a nice detail in the overall picture.
