You shouldn’t leave the choice of your tobacco to chance. To consume responsibly, it’s important to know your own limits. Smoking strong tobacco without prior experience can lead to unpleasant nicotine shocks – and that’s nothing to mess around with. Here are a few basic rules of thumb:

Usually around 12–25 g, although the required amount is influenced by several factors. These include, for example, bowl packing, cut and molasses content – the depot size of the bowl also has a significant impact on the amount of tobacco. Classic traditional bowls tend to require more tobacco than modern, economical bowls. You can find all the steps for optimal bowl packing in the Economical Hookah Bowls Guide. The XKAH Pro is particularly efficient and uses around 9 to 12 g per session.
Good hookah tobacco is characterized by an even cut and homogeneous moisture. It does not matter whether the tobacco was cut coarsely or finely – what matters more is that it has been processed evenly. The tobacco should have a moist shine, feel soft and supple, but not be swimming in excess molasses. This ensures intense flavor and dense smoke.
Also make sure that the tobacco is as free as possible from small twigs or larger stems. This indicates clean processing and prevents the tobacco from burning unevenly. When the molasses has been well absorbed into the leaves and the tobacco smells pleasant, you have a high-quality product.
Hookah tobacco is essentially made up of four components: tobacco leaves, molasses, glycerin and flavorings. Molasses accounts for the largest share of the weight – it provides the moisture and smoke development. This molasses mainly consists of glycerin, which acts as a humectant.

Unopened hookah tobacco usually lasts for one to two years. Once the tin has been opened, its shelf life depends heavily on storage. If you keep it cool, dark and airtight, the tobacco usually stays fresh for six to twelve months. Under unfavorable conditions – such as heat and air contact – the quality can deteriorate after just a few weeks.

Yes, hookah tobacco can be harmful and is intended exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. Smoking releases harmful substances, including nicotine, tar and other carcinogenic compounds. In addition, heating charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which can be harmful when inhaled. If you want to avoid this, there are modern electric systems such as the XKAH that work without charcoal and therefore do not produce carbon monoxide. Switching to nicotine-free tobacco alternatives can also help reduce the risk.

The nicotine content varies depending on the type and is around 0.05–4%. At first glance, that may not sound like much, but hookah sessions usually last significantly longer than smoking a cigarette – meaning that overall, more nicotine can be absorbed than from a single cigarette.

No, the shipping of tobacco products is strictly regulated by law. We are only allowed to sell and ship hookah tobacco within Germany and only to persons over 18 years of age. Therefore, orders from abroad cannot be fulfilled.
The price of hookah tobacco is primarily determined by high tobacco taxes imposed by the government. In addition, production, packaging and transport costs also directly affect the final price.
Another reason is the legal price regulation: tobacco products may not be discounted or sold at reduced prices in Germany. That’s why you won’t find price reductions on tobacco even during sales.
