Anyone who has been to a Russian hookah bar will have noticed one thing: you hardly ever see a phunnel there. In Russia the hookah runs on a traditional bowl and a smokebox.
That setup has become a lot more popular here too. We stock the bowls for it, so you can bring the feeling of a Russian hookah bar home with you.

Which brands are worth it?
The best known traditional bowls in our range come from Russia. Three names keep coming up.
UPG
At UPG the Standard is the most popular model. The clay is pressed very hard and then fired at 1100 degrees. That makes it close to impossible for the bowl to start bleeding.
Cosmo Bowl
The Russian series from Cosmo Bowl takes its looks from classic Russian bowls and differs clearly from the brand's Turkish Bowl designs. At around 17 to 20 g the depot is comparatively large.
Darkside Shot
The Shot from Darkside is tuned to the brand's own tobacco and economical to match. Around 10 to 12 g of depot, roughly three to four minutes to heat up and 30 to 45 minutes of smoking after that.
Good to know: the setup became known here through Darkside tobacco. When the brand entered the German market after the 2019 trade fair, the tobacco was presented in traditional bowls. A lot more people have reached for this shape since.
Packing a traditional bowl properly
When you pack a traditional bowl with a smokebox for the first time, fill the tobacco in loosely. And do not build it too high, so there is still a little space between the underside of the smokebox and the tobacco.
Tip: pull a little more gently on a traditional bowl than on a phunnel. The holes sit in the bottom, so otherwise you draw tobacco through with it.
