The Kaloud is characterised by its patented nubs on the underside as well as the lid and the high-quality look. Made of aluminium, the heat conductivity is noticeably better compared to stainless steel HMDs. Another advantage of aluminium is its faster cooling behaviour: With a reduced heat storage capacity compared to stainless steel variants, the Kaloud Lotus 1+ cools down faster and thus reacts better when a coal is removed. Thus, the tobacco does not burn as quickly as with a stainless steel HMD.

The Kaloud Smokebox basically consists of two parts: the lower part, the actual smokebox, and the lid, which can be opened and closed to regulate the heat. The lower part is again divided into two parts, which are connected by screws. Inside, the Lotus has ribs on the base plate to prevent the shisha charcoal from burning out on the bottom. On the underside of the base are patented knobs that allow you to make light contact with the tobacco and, if necessary, transfer more heat.
The Kaloud has knobs on the underside. These knobs allow you to choose between 3 different distances from the smokebox to the tobacco. Firstly, you can place the tobacco so that the smokebox has no contact. Secondly, you can place the HMD so that exactly the nubs touch the tobacco, but not the entire underside of the HMD, this is also called "nub contact". The last option is the so-called full contact, where the entire underside of the smokebox touches the tobacco.
The head construction with full contact is more suitable for advanced smokers, as the tobacco can burn quickly with poor heat management. However, if you are already well versed in bowl packing and heat management, you will achieve the most intense flavour and the best smoke development. Beginners should first start with a distance setup or the so-called nub contact, as it is much easier to keep the heat under control so that the tobacco does not burn quickly. In addition, the draught or airflow is usually better with these two variants, as the air can flow through the head more easily.
So it can be said that the Lotus Smokebox by Kaloud is suitable for both beginners and professionals. You can slowly feel your way from the distance setup to the full contact setup with the HMD. Besides your experience, the type of tobacco you use also plays a role. Burley tobacco, such as Darkside tobacco and Blackburn tobacco, tolerate heat differently than Virginia tobacco. The best thing to do here is to try out for yourself which tobacco you use with which hookah bowl packing.

For us, there is only one good model of the Kaloud - the Lotus 1+. After the Lotus 1+, the 2nd version and the 3rd version came onto the market. Experienced hookah smokers agree, however, that these have rather taken a step backwards in development. The heat management has become more difficult and with the Lotus 2, even shisha heads have cracked due to the shape, because the metal expands due to the heat. This has often happened with Japona Mummy Bowls. It seems that the manufacturer has optimised here for a wacky look rather than the smoking experience. For this reason, we do not carry these newer models in our shisha online shop.
