Brusko tobacco is actually not really tobacco at all! Instead of raw tobacco, Brusko uses hibiscus flower petals as a base. These are mixed with nicotine, flavors, and other ingredients to create a unique alternative to traditional hookah tobacco! Brusko tobacco was first introduced at the Hookah Fair in Germany in 2023 and has since convinced many smokers. This is not surprising, as the Russian manufacturer Brusko has years of experience in the field of tobacco-free smoking alternatives. Initially, the brand produced flavors for e-hookahs, which were very popular in Russia. The next step was to create a smokeable alternative to classic hookah tobacco.
Brusko is not hookah tobacco in the traditional sense, as it is not made with any parts of the tobacco plant. Instead, the product is based on hibiscus tea, which is mixed with molasses and nicotine.
Tobacco varieties like Burley or Virginia have a rather strong inherent flavor that is noticeable with every puff. By using hibiscus tea, the flavors clearly take center stage and are not overshadowed by the heavy base note of tobacco. As a result, the smoking experience is lighter and the flavors are much more intense.
According to the manufacturer, the high base nicotine content usually causes a noticeable throat hit with regular tobacco. With Brusko tobacco, this is not the case. The acidic hibiscus tea balances out the basic nicotine, and since hibiscus tea has a naturally floral, mild aroma, the overall taste is light and fruity.
However, this light smoking experience has nothing to do with the nicotine content. According to the manufacturer, Brusko has a nicotine content similar to that of Darkside tobacco, making it one of the leaders in nicotine strength.
Brusko tobacco is very popular in Russia. Therefore, the manufacturer’s range is much broader there than it is here in Germany. For example, Brusko offers a whole line of nicotine-free alternatives based on hibiscus, which have not yet been imported to Germany. Whether and when these nicotine-free varieties will be available in Germany is still uncertain.
Another interesting fact is that Brusko is part of New GmbH. New GmbH also owns several other popular dark blend brands, such as Nasch Tobacco, MustH Tobacco, and Blackburn Tobacco.
Brusko has launched six fruity and creamy flavors in Germany. All of these flavors are available at our hookah online shop:
According to the manufacturer, Rasp is a real bestseller. The intensely fruity raspberry flavor has won over a large portion of customers in all countries where Brusko tobacco is available. Another recommendation from us is the App Qivi and Commie! Both are great for mixing as well as for smoking in their pure form!
Even though Brusko is not technically tobacco, the process of building a bowl behaves similarly to Burley or Dark Blend tobaccos from other manufacturers like Darkside Tobacco or Blackburn Tobacco.
When starting with Dark Blend, we recommend a setup with a Phunnel bowl and Smokebox, as you won’t feel the nicotine content as strongly as you would with a multi-hole bowl.
In Russia, Brusko tobacco is mostly smoked in multi-hole hookah bowls. We recommend this if you’ve smoked stronger tobacco before. Good models for this are the Darkside Shot, Cosmo Bowl, or UPG Hookah Bowls. We recommend using them in combination with a Smokebox to achieve the best results.
The tobacco tastes slightly stronger in a multi-hole bowl, and some flavor nuances may be more emphasized in this bowl compared to the Phunnel. Whether the HMD or Smokebox is made of aluminum or stainless steel doesn’t make a difference.
Brusko tobacco is made in Russia. The brand places a strong emphasis on high quality and offers a wide range of flavors. The assortment includes both sour and fruity, as well as creamy flavors.
Interestingly, no tobacco is used for Brusko. Instead, it’s made with hibiscus tea. The absence of tobacco plants results in a lighter smoking experience, and the flavors come through much better since the heavy, bitter base note of Burley tobacco is absent. This hookah tobacco is mixed with nicotine during the manufacturing process. The nicotine content is comparable to Shisha tobacco like Darkside Tobacco.
The most popular Brusko flavors are: "App Qivi," with the refreshing taste of apple and kiwi, but the raspberry flavor "Rasp" from Brusko is also highly popular in the community.
Currently, there are 6 different Brusko tobacco flavors available in Germany. The range includes fruity, creamy, and sour flavors. The sweet taste of hibiscus tea and the strong flavors are very well received in the community.
