Tangiers Noir Now Available in Germany

Tangiers is one of the most renowned and beloved Burley tobacco brands worldwide, and every hookah enthusiast should be familiar with it. Since its founding in 2000 by Eric Hoffman, Tangiers has significantly influenced the hookah scene with its robust Burley tobacco and the invention of the phunnel bowl. Tangiers has consistently impressed with exceptional quality and unique, authentic flavors. Notably, Tangiers flavors like Cane Mint and Kashmir have earned a permanent spot in the hearts of hookah fans worldwide. Now, this American tobacco is finally available in Germany.

What Makes Tangiers Tobacco Special?

Tangiers is a unique tobacco brand. The flavors are highly authentic and not as sweet as those from many other manufacturers. Additionally, the base tobacco has a distinct and prominent flavor, which is why Tangiers is rarely smoked pure by most hookah enthusiasts.

Instead, Tangiers Noir tobacco is often mixed with other varieties, with 10–30% Tangiers being a common ratio. When combined with sweeter tobaccos, Tangiers can unleash its full potential, adding a rich, spicy contrast to the mix. You could say Tangiers gives your blend a touch of sophistication.

If you want to enjoy Tangiers pure, be aware that its intense flavor and high strength level require a specific packing method for optimal enjoyment.

Classic Bowl Packing for Tangiers:

Like a fine wine, enjoying Tangiers requires special preparation. You’ll need a specific bowl and packing method to achieve the best results. The manufacturer even developed the phunnel bowl design specifically for their tobacco, which has since become widely popular in the hookah scene.

After filling the bowl, wipe the edges and press the tobacco away from the rim using your thumb, creating a slight gap between the tobacco and the edges. This technique is demonstrated beautifully in this video by Aljoscha:

By pressing the tobacco, it smokes smoothly despite its strength. Another unique aspect of Tangiers is its heat management.

Heat Management for Tangiers:

Pressed Tangiers tobacco requires very little heat initially. Start with 1 ½ coals (one coal in the HMD and one placed on the edge) and gradually increase the heat during the session. Eventually, you’ll notice a "heat kick" as the compressed tobacco expands and presses against the HMD. When this happens, reduce the heat or coals to two.
