When cleaning your hookah, don’t forget about the hose! Smoke condensation forms inside, leading to unpleasant odors and altered flavors. Additionally, microorganisms and bacteria can accumulate. In this guide, you’ll learn how to prevent buildup, properly clean your hose, and when it’s time to replace it.
Residue inside a silicone hose after months of use
The easiest method is to regularly rinse your silicone hose with clean water. You should do this after every hookah session to maintain basic hygiene.
Detach the hose from the hookah base, then remove the mouthpiece and hose adapter. Next, fill the hose halfway with water, seal both ends, and shake it back and forth to move the water inside. For best results, use warm water to enhance the cleaning process.
We recommend adding a hookah cleaner to ensure thorough cleaning and eliminate bacteria. Various types of cleaners are available in our hookah shop, from powders to sprays. The type doesn’t matter much—just add the cleaner before filling with water and follow the usual process. Here are two popular cleaning products:
Repeat the process a few times to ensure all dirt and residue are completely removed. Then, hang the hose to dry and place a towel underneath to catch any drips. Here’s a quick summary of the steps:
Alternatively, you can rinse the hose using your showerhead. Simply remove the showerhead and hold the hose against the water stream. The pressure will help flush out any dirt. Again, adding a bit of cleaner will improve the cleaning results.
Following these steps will prevent smoke residues from sticking inside the hose, ensuring you get the best flavor from every session. This also extends the lifespan of your hose, allowing you to use it safely for longer.

These flexible brushes easily pass through the hose and provide a much deeper clean than just rinsing with water.
Before using the brush, rinse the hose with water to loosen dirt. Then, run the hose brush through multiple times before giving it a final rinse. As always, hang the hose to dry and place a towel underneath. Done!

If the previous methods don’t work or if your hookah hasn’t been used for a while, boiling the hose can help. In addition to smoke residues, dust and bacteria may have accumulated. Boiling kills bacteria and thoroughly cleans the hose. Below, you'll see step-by-step images.
First, find a pot large enough to hold the coiled-up hose. Fill the pot with water and bring it to a boil. Then, place the hose inside and let it boil for about 5 minutes.
After boiling, carefully remove the hose using kitchen gloves, as it will be extremely hot. Rinse the hose with clean water and let it dry. Here's a quick summary of the boiling process:
In addition to silicone hoses, there are leather hoses, also known as traditional hoses, commonly used with classic hookahs.
Be careful when cleaning leather hoses. Avoid using hot water or steam, as they can damage the leather. When brushing, use soft bristles to prevent damage to the inner lining.
