When cleaning your hookah, the hose should never be neglected. Condensation forms from the smoke, leading to odors and flavor distortion. Microorganisms and harmful bacteria can also accumulate inside. This guide shows you how to prevent buildup, clean it effectively, and determine when to replace the hose.
Residue inside a silicone hose after several months of use
The simplest method is regularly rinsing your silicone hose with clear water – ideally after every hookah session.
First, disconnect the hose from the hookah base and remove the mouthpiece and adapter. Then, fill the hose halfway with water, seal both ends, and shake it to move the water inside. Use warm water for better results.
We recommend adding a hookah cleaner for optimal disinfection. These come as powders or sprays – both work well. Just add some cleaner before the water and proceed as described. Here are two popular options:
Repeat the process a few times to ensure all residue is removed. Then hang the hose to dry with a towel underneath. Summary:
Alternatively, use your shower hose: remove the showerhead and flush warm water through the hookah hose. Add cleaner for better results.
Following these instructions ensures residue from smoke won’t stick to the hose. This maintains the flavor and prolongs its life.
Need a new hose? We offer a wide selection of high-quality silicone hoses:

Rinse the hose first, then insert the brush and scrub thoroughly. Rinse again, then hang the hose to dry. Done.

If the previous methods don’t work or the hose hasn’t been used in a while, boiling is an option – but only for silicone hoses.
Coil the hose to fit in a pot. Fill the pot with water, bring to a boil, and submerge the hose for 5 minutes. Remove carefully using gloves, rinse with clean water, and let dry.

In addition to silicone hoses, there are leather or “Tradi” hoses, often used with traditional hookahs.
Be careful when cleaning: avoid hot water or steam, as leather may warp. Use soft-bristle brushes to avoid damaging the leather interior.

Regular cleaning prevents condensation, bacteria, and flavor residue from building up inside the hose. This keeps the flavor clean and hygienic.
Ideally after every session using warm water and a cleaner. If used frequently, we recommend replacing the hose every 6 to 12 months.
Yes, but only if it’s a silicone hose! Leather or traditional hoses must not be boiled or treated with hot water, as this can damage the material.
Hang the hose vertically to dry and place a towel underneath to catch dripping water. Make sure the hose is completely dry before using it again.
