The tobacco varieties from AINO have many fans in the German hookah scene. The philosophy of the Osnabrück-based producer Shanti is to put a lot of care into the development of a product before it is released to the public.
It is therefore not surprising that the manufacturer takes the necessary time even when adapting its popular Virginia Blend mixtures to pipe tobacco.
Many AINO fans will be delighted by the implementation of the aromatic tobacco into pipe tobacco, as they now have the opportunity to get their favorite varieties in large 200 g cans at a good price.
According to the manufacturer, the hookah tobacco from AINO is unique, and we think there is definitely something to that! On the one hand, the manufacturer impresses with high quality, and on the other hand, the different varieties offer intense and extraordinary flavor experiences. In addition to the taste, the Osnabrück tobacco also scores with its excellent smoke production and heat resistance. At the 2023 Hookah Fair in Frankfurt, the AINO Dark Blend tobacco was introduced under the brand for the first time, based on a stronger Burley tobacco. Previously, it was exclusively Virginia tobacco blends.
Since February 2024, AINO's pipe tobacco has been on the market, fulfilling the community's wish to be able to purchase large cans of hookah tobacco again.
AINO pipe tobacco is an aromatic dry tobacco that is not directly smokable in a hookah. Only by adding 90 g of glycerin (at least 95% purity), carefully mixing both components several times, and allowing some time for the mixture to set, you get a moist hookah tobacco that can then be smoked in a hookah.
At launch, the manufacturer is releasing seven of its most popular varieties as pipe tobacco. What is immediately noticeable is that the newly released varieties have different names than the ready-to-smoke varieties. Even though the manufacturer retains the flavor, the new name is a clear indication that they want to avoid confusion with the original product and that they want to avoid cumbersome or ambiguous abbreviations in the name, as was sometimes the case with Aino Dark.
We can only speculate whether this has to do with the manufacturer's ambitions to also bring the Aino Dark tobacco varieties to the market as pipe tobacco. The new names chosen by Shanti certainly give a hint as to which original variety might be behind the respective pipe tobacco. But not only the names have changed. The design of the pipe tobacco line has also been adjusted and now gives us a stylishly minimalist impression.

Most of our customers find AINO Black Ice or AINO Oha the best, and we share this opinion. Black Ice is an intense blackberry tobacco with a cool note. This blend is particularly popular among major hookah content creators like Marvin from ShishaWG or Doelid! The AINO Oha tobacco tastes like Brazilian guava and, in our opinion, is a very unique flavor. Especially if you have been smoking for a long time and are looking for some variety from your favorite flavors, the OHA from AINO is an excellent choice! But we can also recommend all other Virginia varieties from the brand. If you like the fruit or the variety specified for the tobacco, the likelihood that you will enjoy the corresponding tobacco is extremely high with AINO tobacco, as the flavors are simply extremely well executed by the producer!
AINO tobacco is designed for use with a phunnel and a smokebox. According to the manufacturer, this setup yields the best results for the tobacco. We can confirm this from our own experience.
However, you can also smoke the Virginia tobacco from AINO in a classic setup with a clay bowl and a chimney. Here, the flavor and smoke production are just slightly less intense.

Currently, there are 21 varieties of AINO. Of these, 15 varieties are based on Virginia tobacco and 6 varieties are based on Burley tobacco. According to the manufacturer, new varieties are continuously being developed!
In our opinion: YES! We have extensively tested the tobacco ourselves and are very impressed with AINO hookah tobacco.
AINO is produced in Germany, more specifically in Osnabrück! This production facility strictly adheres to hygiene and cleanliness and uses only the best ingredients.
Unfortunately, we cannot say exactly when new varieties will be released. However, the manufacturer always informs about this in a timely manner via their AINO Instagram profile!
