Anyone familiar with the hookah scene has likely heard of Blaze Dark Leaf Tobacco from Hookain. For those who haven't, we’re happy to explain this powerful dark blend in more detail. Blaze Dark Leaf, produced by Hookain, is a high-nicotine, robust Burley tobacco that is surprisingly smooth for its strength. However, that doesn’t mean it smokes as easily as Virginia tobacco. After all, we’re still talking about a Burley blend. But when looking at the raw numbers, it's hard to believe that a hookah tobacco with a nicotine level above 4% can be this smooth.
BLAZE Dark Leaf hookah tobacco is based on a refined Burley blend. According to Hookain, developing a high-quality Burley blend that is both extremely strong and smooth to smoke was no easy task. The Cologne-based company achieved success by infusing their high-quality French tobacco with glycerin and molasses and subjecting it to 250 bars of pressure. This process ensures that the flavors and glycerin fully penetrate the plant’s cell structure, a method known as tobacco homogenization.
BLAZE tobacco is based on a well-balanced Burley tobacco blend that delivers everything a fan of dark tobacco appreciates. The Burley blend smokes smoothly, offering full-bodied, intense flavor with an optimal throat hit. The flavors of individual varieties harmoniously complement the leathery-earthy taste of the Burley blend, while the tobacco taste itself remains subtly present in the background.
Currently, Hookain offers six varieties of their Burley blend. Most of these flavors are fruity, but there’s also a creamy pastry option, ensuring there’s something for most hookah enthusiasts.

All the flavors are excellent if you enjoy a strong tobacco experience. If you can handle high nicotine levels, you’ll likely enjoy any BLAZE Dark Leaf variety. We personally love Lym Hype (sour lime) for mixing, and Preach (peach/green tea combo) is also a fantastic choice for your bowl.
Interestingly, this is a tough question for Blaze tobacco. While we often recommend a combination of a phunnel and smokebox, a multi-hole bowl is also a great option for this robust dark tobacco.
Depending on your setup and heat level, different flavors may come to the forefront, so it’s best to experiment and find what works best for you.

If you find the tobacco isn’t strong enough in a phunnel, you can try a multi-hole bowl. The Darkside Shot or a Cosmo Bowl with a shot chamber are perfect options, as they use less tobacco—helpful in case the strength is overwhelming.

Currently, there are 6 BLAZE hookah tobacco flavors available. All of them can be found in our shop. The manufacturer Hookain usually announces new flavors first on Instagram.
We are convinced of its quality. Hookain’s tobacco is extremely well-processed and smokes surprisingly smooth for such a strong base tobacco. However, due to its high nicotine level, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to beginners.
FYL is produced in Poland, where Hookain operates its manufacturing facility. Hookain is also the brand behind BLAZE Dark Leaf. Most of the raw tobacco used comes from France.
From our experience, the best setup for this tobacco is a phunnel with a smokebox. Specifically, we recommend models from Hookain, Moze, Amotion, or ONMO.
