Werkbund Zeus: a big depot from a Russian workshop
Werkbund has production done by hand in a Russian workshop. A clay mix is used and then given a heat-resistant glaze. The result is hookah bowls with good heat retention and even heat distribution.
The main line is the Zeus, a phunnel with an 18 to 22 gram depot. There is also a second line, the X Space Smoke Phunnel, which was developed for hookah pastes.

What sets the Zeus apart
The clay mix stores heat well and passes it evenly to the tobacco. With a depot of 18 to 22 grams that matters, because otherwise the edges get hot while the middle is not there yet.
The phunnel build keeps the molasses in the depot rather than in the stem. The glazed surface makes cleaning easier, because less clings to the material. Because every bowl is made individually, colour and shape differ slightly.
Tip: at 1.3 cm depot depth and 18 to 22 grams you are best packing flat and evenly across the whole area. Heap it in the middle and the hookah tobacco sits too close to the heat.
The X Space Smoke Phunnel
The second line is a collaboration with Space Smoke. The bowl was developed for the brand's hookah pastes, but according to the maker it works with classic tobacco without any trouble. Several months of research and testing went into the development, according to the maker.
The depot holds around 20 grams of tobacco or paste, at a depot depth of 1.0 to 1.2 cm. That makes it a little flatter than the Zeus and correspondingly economical to pack. It works with heat management systems such as lotus-style attachments as well as with classic aluminium foil setups.
Which glazes are available?
The Zeus comes in ten variants. Depot and measurements are the same on all of them.

- Gold: gold tone
- Noir: black
- Black & White: two-tone

Which attachment fits?
At a 7.5 cm outer diameter any common smokebox fits, in aluminium as in stainless steel. With a depot this size stainless steel is more worthwhile than on small bowls, because you need more heat to bring the whole area along.
Please note: because they are handmade, shape and colour can differ slightly from the product photo. Small cracks in the glaze and bleeding can occur due to the material and are not grounds for a complaint.
