Vandenberg V3: the brand's traditional bowl
The V3 is the first turkish bowl from Vandenberg. Before it the brand only had the V1 as a phunnel, and the V3 adds a traditional bowl to the range.
Like every Vandenberg bowl it is made in Germany, by hand and at a high firing temperature. The depot holds 16 to 18 grams, the bowl weighs around 290 grams and costs €39.90.

V3 or V3-C?
The C stands for carving. On the V3-C the side wall has a broad vertical carving. That makes the bowl look a little slimmer, and the glaze picks up effects along the edges of the grooves that the plain V3 does not have.
Depot, weight, material and firing temperature are identical on both. So there is no difference in how they smoke, and you decide purely on looks.

How the V3 differs from the V1
The main difference is the shape. The V1 is a phunnel at 18 to 20 grams, the V3 a traditional bowl at 16 to 18 grams. With a traditional bowl you pack looser and pull a little more gently.
There is also a practical point: according to the maker the V3 takes somewhat longer than the V1 to reach operating temperature. So allow a few extra minutes when lighting up before you start adjusting the heat.
Tip: if the bowl does little in the first few minutes, wait rather than adding charcoal. With 290 grams of mass it simply takes time for the clay to warm through. After that it holds the temperature accordingly long.
Which tobacco suits it?
As a traditional bowl the V3 plays to its strengths with strong dark blend tobacco. The mass of the bowl keeps the heat stable, so the aroma of the hookah tobacco develops evenly across the session.
Which glazes are available?
The V3 and V3-C each come in five variants.
- Samoa: a warm, earthy tone
- Ibiza: a light colour gradient
- Sansibar: a muted natural tone
- Mitternachtsblau: deep dark blue
- Gold Antik: a gold tone with an antique effect
Which attachment fits?
The V3 is built for an HMD setup, so any common smokebox fits. As with any traditional bowl the box may overhang the rim, all that matters is that the slots sit over the depot. Aluminium foil works too, a chimney attachment does not.
Please note: because they are handmade, shape and colour can differ slightly from the product photo. Bleeding cannot be entirely ruled out on this bowl either and is not grounds for a complaint.
