Darkside Smokebox: the Heater
Darkside does not only make tobacco, it also builds hardware in Russian style. With the Heater, the Russian tobacco maker now has its first HMD of its own in the range. It is made from anodised aluminium, which keeps it nice and light but still suits constant use. It fits most common bowls and, as you would expect, works very well with the brand's own bowls.
The open design with air inlets close to the base spreads the heat evenly across the tobacco chamber. The raised charcoal platform lets the coals burn more efficiently, so you top up less often. That pays off especially with a strong dark blend, Must H for example. It is easy to look after as well, the material takes frequent cleaning without complaint. You should keep it out of the dishwasher, though.
Worth knowing: the Heater is deliberately built for three 25mm coals, the way it is usually done in Russia, where all of the brand's products are developed. Its capacity is therefore a little smaller than on the ONMO HMD, for example.
The rest of the Darkside range
The Heater is only one part of it. The brand made its name with Darkside hookah tobacco, joined by the ready-made blends of Darkside Shake and the freshly composed aromas of Xperience by Darkside.
On the hardware side there are the Darkside Hookahs with their Russian draw and the Darkside Bowls, which the Heater sits on best anyway.
FAQ: Darkside Heater
What charcoal size is the Darkside Heater built for?
The Heater is built for three 25mm coals, the way it is usually done in Russia. Its capacity is therefore a little smaller than on some other HMDs.
Does the Darkside Heater fit every hookah bowl?
It fits most common bowls. It sits best on the Darkside bowls, which come from the same maker.
How do I clean the Darkside Heater?
The anodised aluminium is easy to look after and takes frequent cleaning. The Heater still does not belong in the dishwasher, clean it by hand.
What is an HMD good for in the first place?
An HMD sits on the bowl in place of aluminium foil and spreads the heat of the coals more evenly. The tobacco burns more slowly as a result and you top up less often.
