How much does an electric hookah cost?

Depending on the system, an electric hookah costs around €270 to €450. An electric hookah bowl for the hookah you already own starts with the XKAH Lite at €269.99, and the XKAH Pro with its swappable battery comes in at €349.99. Complete all-in-one devices like our shii cost around €450, because the base, hose and mouthpiece are already included.
The purchase price is only half the story, though. What's more interesting is what every session costs you afterwards, and that comes down mostly to your tobacco. It matters far more for your savings than the charcoal you no longer need. How electric smoking works in general is explained in our guide Electronic Hookah.
- An electric hookah bowl (e-HMD) for your own hookah costs €269.99 with a cable (XKAH Lite) or €349.99 with a battery (XKAH Pro).
- All-in-one devices with base, hose and mouthpiece cost around €420 to €450.
- You save the most on tobacco: a pod takes around 8 g, a classic bowl usually 20 g.
- At three sessions a week, an XKAH pays for itself after six to eight months, the shii after about ten.
- With prefilled pods, you pay several times as much per session, because you buy a new pod every time.
- Bundles and promotions let you save even more on the XKAH, for example with a double pack you share with a friend.
Prices as of: October 22, 2026. We list the regular prices here. In bundles and promotions, you'll sometimes get the devices for less. The current price in the shop always applies.
Price check: what does an electric hookah cost?
Here are the common systems and their current prices at a glance:
| System | Examples | Price | What else you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric hookah bowl with cable | XKAH Lite, Imoto G1 | from €269.99 | your own hookah |
| Electric hookah bowl with battery | XKAH Pro | €349.99 | your own hookah |
| All-in-one with your own tobacco | shii, ENSŌ | approx. €420 to €450 | nothing, the hookah is included |
| All-in-one with prefilled pods | OOKA | approx. €450 | a new pod for every session, around €7.50 |
So the purchase price alone doesn't tell you which system works out cheapest for you. If you already have a hookah you enjoy, an electric bowl is usually your best bet. If you're just getting started, an all-in-one device gives you everything at once.
E-shishas are not electric hookahs
The name often causes confusion: an e-shisha is a vape, in other words an e-cigarette. It vaporises liquid using a heating coil. An electric hookah, on the other hand, heats real hookah tobacco in a pod, and the smoke passes through the water in your base just like you're used to. What exactly sets the two apart is explained in our article What is the difference between an e-shisha and an e-cigarette?
Price-wise, vapes are in a completely different league too. You can get a disposable e-shisha for as little as €5 to €15. We focus on reusable pod systems: devices start at under €30, and a prefilled pod costs around €7. You'll find devices, pods and liquids in our Vapes category.
Why do electric hookah prices vary so much?
Between €270 and €450 is quite a range. The main reason is how much of the setup comes in the box. An e-HMD (electric heat management device) like the XKAH Pro only replaces the bowl and smokebox on your hookah. An all-in-one device also brings the base, stem, hose, mouthpiece and battery.
Then there's the technology. An electric hookah has to keep the heat constant, and you want to be able to match the temperature to your tobacco. The XKAH Pro goes up to 305 °C in custom mode, and the shii even has a hardcore mode on its top setting for very strong dark blends. The power of the heater and battery, the build quality and the materials also affect the price.
More expensive doesn't automatically mean better for you. If you always smoke in the same spot anyway, you can skip the battery and get away cheaper with a corded device.
What does an electric hookah bowl (e-HMD) cost?
If you already own a hookah, an electric bowl is the cheapest way to smoke electrically. You simply put it where the bowl and smokebox would normally sit. You'll find both models in our XKAH category.
XKAH Lite: €269.99
The XKAH Lite runs on a cable, which makes it the more affordable alternative to the Pro. Since there's no battery built in, it keeps going session after session without any charging breaks. If your hookah almost always sits on your desk or coffee table, the Lite is exactly right for you. Other corded bowls like the Imoto G1 work on the same principle.
In the box, you'll find a power supply, a 2.5 m power cable, two tobacco pods, two silicone adapters, tongs and a fork poker.
XKAH XKAH Lite - Black View product XKAH Pro: €349.99
The XKAH Pro runs on a swappable 13,600 mAh battery that you charge via USB-C. That means you can smoke in the garden, while travelling or at a festival, no power socket needed. In custom mode, you can set up to 305 °C and sessions of up to 90 minutes. So the extra €80 over the Lite mainly buys you flexibility.
It comes with the battery, two tobacco pods, two silicone adapters, a USB-C charging cable, tongs, a fork poker and a travel bag. So you can get started right away.
XKAH XKAH Pro Silver Hookah Smokebox View product What extra costs can come up with the XKAH?
You don't need any other products to get started. Over time, you might add a part or two:
- Spare pods in a 2-pack for €19.99. With these, you can prepare your next session while the first one is still running.
- Spare pod with case for €14.99.
- Second battery for the Pro for €79.99. In a bundle with the Pro, you'll get it cheaper than on its own.
- Spare seal for the Pro for €4.99, and the spare parts set for the Lite for €14.99.
Compared to the price of the device, these are small amounts. They still belong in an honest long-term calculation.
Bundles and promotions: how to save when you buy
If you don't need an XKAH right away and would rather wait for a good deal, you have several ways to save money.
For one, we offer the XKAH Pro and XKAH Lite in bundles. A double pack gets you two devices in the same colour, and each one costs less than if you bought it on its own. If you share the double pack with a friend, you both save. The XKAH Pro is also available in a bundle with a second battery, which is cheaper than buying the device and battery separately.
For another, you'll regularly find the XKAH devices in our promotions, for example around Black Friday. What we're planning for it is covered in Hookah Black Friday.
XKAH 2x XKAH Pro Silver View product What do all-in-one devices cost?
If you don't own a hookah yet, the maths looks different. With an all-in-one device, you buy the complete hookah including the heating technology, which is why these models cost around €420 to €450. Besides our shii, the ENSŌ and the OOKA also fall into this price range, for example.
Our shii costs €449.99. For that, you get the heating unit, base, hose, mouthpiece, two pods and the Battery S with 6,900 mAh. You can smoke on the battery or directly on the USB-C cable, and you get the matching 65 W power supply separately. Like the XKAH, you fill the shii with your own tobacco, and the pods are even identical.
The OOKA works differently. It uses prefilled pods, for example from Al Fakher. You insert the pod and smoke, you just can't use your own tobacco with it. What that means for the running costs is shown in the comparison further down.
shii shii electronic Hookah - Black View product What does an electric hookah cost per session?
With open systems like the XKAH and shii, you fill your own hookah tobacco into the pod. So the running costs are almost entirely tobacco, plus a little electricity and the occasional spare part. You decide which flavour and which price range you smoke. It's still real tobacco with nicotine, electric just takes the charcoal out of the picture.
A pod needs around 8 g of tobacco, while a classic hookah bowl usually takes 20 g or more. A session on the XKAH runs for 50 minutes. If your tobacco still has flavour left after that, just skip the preheat and keep smoking.
Calculator: when does your device pay for itself?
Pick your device, set how often you smoke per week, and see how much you save compared to charcoal and a classic bowl.
If you smoke cheaper tobacco or already pack smaller bowls, the results shift a little. Which of the three devices suits you best is covered in detail in XKAH Pro vs XKAH Lite vs shii.
Your own tobacco or prefilled pods from Al Fakher and co.?
With a closed pod system and prefilled pods, you buy a new pod for every session. That makes the costs easy to plan, but they come out a lot higher. For the OOKA, a 2-pack costs €14.99 in the manufacturer's German shop, so around €7.50 per session. Here's how that compares to the shii, using the same assumptions as the calculator and three sessions a week:
| shii with your own tobacco | OOKA with prefilled pods | |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase price | €449.99 | approx. €450 |
| Tobacco per session | around 8 g of dark blend | one prefilled pod |
| Cost per session | approx. €1.52 | approx. €7.50 |
| Cost per month | approx. €19.69 | approx. €97.36 |
| Cost per year | approx. €236 | approx. €1,168 |
| Choice of tobacco | any hookah tobacco | matching pods only |
So with almost the same purchase price, the two devices end up around €930 apart after a year. With prefilled pods, you even pay more per session than with charcoal and a classic bowl, which comes to around €5.10 in our calculation. In return, the pod is in place in seconds.
Does an electric hookah save money in the long run?
If you smoke regularly, yes. When it comes to saving, you probably think of the charcoal first, but the bigger lever is the tobacco. At three sessions a week, the calculator shows you saving around €30 a month on tobacco and a good €10 on charcoal. On top of that, you no longer need to restock charcoal burners and charcoal accessories.
How much you end up saving depends on how often you smoke, how full you used to pack your bowl and which flavour you choose. If you only smoke a few times a year, the savings will hardly earn back the purchase price. Then convenience is the better reason for an electric hookah. If you want to save tobacco the classic way too, take a look at our article Economical Hookah Bowls.
When is a higher price worth it?
An electric hookah for €450 isn't automatically a better choice than one for €270. What matters is the value you get for the extra money. Spending more is worth it if you:
- don't own a hookah yet and get everything at once with an all-in-one device,
- want to smoke on the move and need a battery for that,
- want plenty of heat for strong dark blends,
- smoke often, so the device gets a lot of use.
Colour and design, on the other hand, hardly affect the price. The XKAH Pro comes in silver, graphite, blue and pink, and every colour costs the same. For your enjoyment, tobacco and temperature matter more than looks anyway.
In everyday use, you'll notice the difference from charcoal mainly at the start: build the pod, put it in, start the preheat, and after around 8 minutes the XKAH is ready to smoke. The manufacturer states 5 minutes for the OOKA. Cleaning is quicker too, since there's no ash or charcoal residue.
What does cleaning and wear cost?
You wipe the heating plate with isopropyl alcohol on a cloth and clean the pod with steel wool and the fork poker. After the session, you take the pod out of the device with the tongs, which keeps your fingers away from the hot heating plate. With the shii, there's also the base, which you rinse out like on any hookah. You won't need much more than isopropyl alcohol and the occasional bit of steel wool.
Over time, seals, pods and, with frequent use, the odd battery will need replacing. Compared to the price of the device, that stays manageable, but you should still factor it into a long-term calculation.
Smoking an electric hookah: how much budget should you plan for?
As a rough guide:
| Your situation | Budget |
|---|---|
| You have a hookah and smoke in a fixed spot | from €269.99 (XKAH Lite) |
| You have a hookah and also smoke on the go | €349.99 (XKAH Pro) |
| You have a hookah and want a second battery | cheaper than separately in the XKAH Pro + Battery bundle |
| You have a hookah and buy a bundle with a friend | less per person than buying separately (XKAH Lite or XKAH Pro double pack) |
| No hookah yet | approx. €420 to €450 (for example the shii) |
| System with prefilled pods | approx. €450 plus around €7.50 per session |
So what matters most is what you already have at home. With a good hookah on the shelf, you'll get into electric smoking much more cheaply than with a complete new setup.
Tips on VAT, shipping and bundles
Before you add anything to your basket, it's worth taking a second look at the whole package:
- Is VAT included in the price? With us, all prices include VAT.
- What shipping costs come on top? You'll see them in our checkout.
- Is a battery included, and how many pods come in the box?
- Is there a bundle, for example with a second battery, that's cheaper than the individual parts?
- Is the price a promotional price that only applies for a short time?
- How do other buyers rate the device? Reviews with lots of stars and concrete everyday experience help you decide.
A low device price won't do you much good if you then have to buy important accessories separately. So with bundles, check exactly what's included and compare the bundle price with the total of the individual parts.
Our verdict: how much does an electric hookah cost?
Plan on around €270 to €450 for the purchase. If you already own a hookah, an electric bowl like the XKAH Lite or XKAH Pro is the cheapest way in. If you're starting from scratch, an all-in-one device like the shii is the better choice despite the higher price. And if you go for an XKAH, bundles and promotions let you save even more.
In the long run, what counts most is what you put in the pod. With your own tobacco and around 8 g per session, you save money every month compared to a classic bowl. Prefilled pods turn that advantage around, with those you pay several times as much per session.
