Hookain Low Load: the brand's most economical bowl

The Low Load is the phunnel to look at if it bothers you that tobacco is still sitting in the bowl at the end of a session. According to the manufacturer it gets by on 8 g with light contact to the smokebox pins, and the capacity is around 12 g.

How far you get with that also depends on the tobacco itself. The direction is right, though: less tobacco per session without the session getting shorter.

The key facts
  • Around 12 g capacity, usable from 8 g
  • Flat, wide depot, so the tobacco gets used up completely
  • Black stoneware clay, handmade in Spain
  • The manufacturer recommends stainless steel, aluminium works just as well
  • Fits all common smokeboxes

Why the tobacco gets used up completely

It comes down to the shape of the depot. It is flat and wide, so the heat reaches the bottom layer too. On deeper bowls that layer is often still unburnt when the session ends.

Then there is the material. The Low Load is made from black stoneware clay, which spreads the heat more evenly inside the bowl.

Which smokebox fits the Low Load?

All the common ones. Because of the thermal properties of the material the manufacturer recommends stainless steel. Our experience is that aluminium works just as well, so the choice is yours.

Manufacturer's note: bleeding cannot be prevented entirely and is therefore not grounds for complaint. The same goes for production-related differences from the product image. And even though this bowl is tougher than most: anything beyond ordinary use is not recommended.
