Why a Moze hookah in the first place?

The hookah market is crowded. There are hundreds of models, a lot of them look suspiciously alike, and prices run from around €40 to well over €400. If you do not have much experience with hookahs yet and you are buying one online for the first time, the question is only logical: why should it be a Moze of all things?

The short answer: because we offer very good quality at a fair price and develop our models ourselves. Moze and AMOTION are not brands we buy in somewhere and stamp our logo on. We decide how a model looks, how it smokes, which parts go into it and what you pay for it. That can take a long time. We put almost two years of development into the Valve. It matters to us that every model carries a real idea and an identity of its own.

Whether one of our hookahs suits you, however, comes down entirely to you, because design and smoking behaviour vary a lot from model to model. Because the philosophies behind our hookahs are so different, we eventually launched AMOTION. Under that brand we develop hookahs that, because of their character and their design, do not fit the Moze brand philosophy.

What the brands stand for

Both brands have their own focus. One is more purist, with a claim to customisation. The other is for people who look for an unusual appearance and clever features in a hookah. That range is why most of our customers find something with us. If you do not find anything with one brand, the other usually works out.

Moze: classic, stainless steel, everything adjustable

Moze is the older of the two brands and the one you could fairly call a classic hookah brand. The design language is Russian-influenced, so tidy, symmetrical, with clean edges and a lot of brushed or polished stainless steel. If you picture a hookah that will still not look dated in ten years, that is roughly the direction.

Russian-influenced does not only mean the look, it also means the construction. Classic Russian hookahs are almost always plug-in hookahs. The stem is not screwed onto a thread but simply pushed into the glass bowl over a rubber grommet. That sounds simple, but it has a real advantage: if your bowl breaks or you just want a different look, you push a new one on. You are not tied to one particular thread.

So that this actually works, all Moze and AMOTION models are designed for the common inner diameter of 45 mm. Some manufacturers go their own way here and develop special sizes for individual models, with the result that you can only get replacements from them. We deliberately do not do that. And because bowls are handmade and turn out marginally different, every model comes with two grommets of different widths.

The second principle at Moze is customisation. Every model can be adapted in at least one way, and with the Varity we subordinated the entire hookah to that idea. The downstem and the stem can both be split, you can run a push-in or a screw-on bowl, swap base and sleeve or build the whole thing in stainless steel. That changes not only the look but also how the draw feels.

Who it is made for: people who like a classic hookah look and enjoy tinkering with their setup.

AMOTION: colour, shape, one theme per model

We started AMOTION because we were missing a brand that thinks from the design rather than from the material. Instead of a stainless steel look there is colour, and instead of one continuous design language every model has its own concept.

• Roam. The start of the brand. A travel hookah around 15 cm tall that still smokes like a big one.
• FUTR. Futuristic graphic design on soft-touch material, plus the most complete package in the range.
• Flash Bang. Modelled on a futuristic stun grenade and, with over 30 individual parts, one of our most elaborate hookahs.
• Valve. A tribute to motor racing and tuning, right down to the charcoal plate styled like a brake disc.
• Pedal RX. Mountain bike theme, a charcoal plate like a chainring, a sleeve in shock absorber design.
• Doppler. The pragmatic counterpoint. Everything about it is built so you can clean it quickly.

That makes AMOTION the brand for anyone who cares how the hookah looks in the room. If people recognise your model from five metres away, that is a feature here.

And what is alite?

alite is our third brand and was set up with the idea of giving beginners a solid basic kit at a low price. alite hookahs always come as a generous complete package. If you do not have the budget for a Moze or an AMOTION with full equipment, alite is the perfect pick for you. The finish is not quite at the level of an AMOTION, but these are still models made from the best V2A stainless steel that perform very well. Prices sit between €119.99 and €199.99.

The decisive part, though, is in the box. Every alite set contains an ONMO HMD and the alite Plot phunnel, two pieces that would cost around €50 on their own. Those two are exactly what decides your session in the end. On top of that come a hose, a mouthpiece, seals and a built-in molasses catcher. So you do not have to buy anything extra to get going.

The designs of the Swiss and the Bash may look familiar to some. They originally come from Smokelabs. When Smokelabs stopped, we bought the rights to the designs. So nothing here is copied, we are simply carrying on something that would otherwise have disappeared.

One note: the draw on the alite models is tighter than on our Moze and AMOTION hookahs. That is mainly down to the built-in molasses catcher, and it cannot be unscrewed. In practice it is less noticeable than the measurements suggest, but if you like it airy, you are better off with the other two brands.

What defines a Moze or AMOTION hookah

You can tell our brands apart very quickly and very clearly by their looks. But what do they share, what do they have in common? These five points apply to both brands:

1. Rust-free V2A stainless steel where it counts

Everywhere smoke or water passes through, we use rust-free V2A stainless steel. That covers the stem, the downstem and the load-bearing parts. The reason is unspectacular: stainless steel does not take on flavour, does not tarnish and forgives you when the cleaning comes a session too late.

To be honest about it: not every component is metal. Depending on the model, sleeves, seal seats and grip elements are made from ABS, POM or aluminium, and on the Flash Bang and the FUTR that is a good part of the visible surface. This is not cutting corners, it has to do with weight and colour. A Flash Bang made entirely of stainless steel would be heavy and could not be coloured like that.

If you want a hookah with genuinely no plastic on it, the Moze Tradi is your model. Its stem is made from a single piece of polished V2A, with no separate sleeve.

2. A draw that is nice and smooth, and mostly very open

On the draw we have a clear line: open rather than tight. Our lightest models are the AMOTION FUTR and the Flash Bang, where smoking feels almost like breathing. At the other end sit the Moze Tradi and the AMOTION Pedal RX, which have noticeably more resistance. On the Pedal RX that is deliberate and fits the mountain bike theme.

What you will not get from us is a genuine Russian style draw, the hard resistance classic Russian hookahs are known for. None of our models goes that far. If that is exactly what you are looking for, we are the wrong address, and we would rather say so beforehand than afterwards.

The Varity is the special case. Because the downstem and the stem can be split, you set the draw yourself, from direct to soft.

3. Spare parts that will still exist in two years

Every one of our models has its own spare parts category in the shop, with between 7 and 31 individual items depending on the hookah. Torn seal, scratched sleeve, broken bowl, misplaced magnetic hose port: all of it can be bought separately.

That sounds like a small thing, but it decides whether a hookah still runs after two years or ends up in the cupboard. We keep the parts in stock because we develop the models ourselves and have them produced ourselves.

4. There is an idea behind every model

We do not release a model just to fill up the category. The Valve took almost two years of development until materials, shapes, graphics and even the blow-off matched the motorsport theme. With the Doppler the goal was a different one, namely cleaning without disassembly. Base, sleeve, balls and stem are permanently fitted, and for a deep clean you open two screws on the underside.

And sometimes we develop technology along the way that does not exist anywhere else. The Breeze Two has our patented variable blow-off system, and the Breeze Pro can switch between three blow-offs mid-session and protects the bowl from overheating via the Push to Purge system.

5. Developed in Germany, shipped from Germany

Design, development and quality control run in-house, and the parcels go out from here too. More than 90,000 customers have ordered from us by now, and on Google we sit at 4.9 stars from over 900 reviews. From €80 order value, shipping within Germany is free, which applies to all of these models anyway.

World-class models that do not cost the world

Most of the hookahs that seriously come into question for our customers start at around €100 and run to about €400. Upwards, however, as in almost every area of life, there is barely a real limit. There are hookahs for over €1,000, and even luxury brands from the automotive world sell their own models that hardly anyone puts on their table. Our hookahs mostly sit in the lower half of that price range. They are not the cheapest on the market, but in return they offer excellent material and build quality.

Why some hookahs cost so much

A high price is rarely arbitrary. Usually the production location or the manufacturing method is behind it, and you can see both in concrete brands that we carry in our own shop.

• Wookah. Handmade in Poland, every stem cut from a single piece of natural wood. With us they run from €199.99 to €609.99.
• Regal Hookah. Built by hand in California from lacquered wood, coated aluminium and stainless steel. Every hookah is a one-off. With us they start at €319.99, the top model sits at €1,559.
• CNC-machined models from Germany. Well-known manufacturers in that segment start just under €200 and sit at €500 to €600 for the large models. Their luxury lines with special aluminium and set crystals play in an entirely different league again.
• Designer and luxury editions. As soon as a car manufacturer from the luxury segment or a fashion label holds the pen, it goes four figures and stays open-ended.

None of that is too expensive, it is all worth its price. Handwork in California, solid wood from Poland or production in Germany on the best CNC machines simply cost money. If those things matter to you and you are a collector, you will probably pay the price willingly.

Why our hookahs do not cost that much

We take a different route. Our hookahs are designed and developed by us, and produced in China. We searched there for a long time until we found a factory that produces to our ideas and specifications and that we work with closely enough to plan out every step of development and production.

China has a worse reputation as a production location than it deserves. There are factories there that make cheap junk, and there are factories that work at a very high level. Anything can be manufactured there, in any quality you like. The difference comes down to who is ordering and how precisely you communicate what you want, what you will settle for and what you are willing to spend. We have our models produced in quantities that suit our size, we have plenty of samples made, and we look at the batches before they go into shipping.

That is exactly where the price advantage comes from. You get high-quality materials such as V2A stainless steel, beautiful designs from our own development and top customer service. On top of that, the security that if something is lost or damaged we have a wide selection of spare parts in stock. And usually within a price range of €100 to €200, while comparably well thought-out hookahs from European small-workshop production quickly land at double that. This is not a judgement on their quality, it is simply a different calculation.

Which one suits you?

Eleven models, briefly sorted. The heights are for the assembled hookah including the bowl, except where stated otherwise.

One note on the prices: with the Tradi and the Varity the cheapest entry is the stem set, meaning the hookah without the glass bowl. With the bowl you are at €149.99 for the Tradi M and €164.99 for the Tradi L. The heights in the table, by contrast, are always the assembled hookah including the bowl, otherwise the figures would not be comparable.

The Breeze Two has been our best-selling model since 2021 and is the right first Moze for most people. 40 cm, 1.7 kg, runs smooth, costs €149.99. On top of that comes the variable blow-off system and a wide selection of parts to customise it. If you do not feel like deliberating for long, take this one.

Moze Varity: for everyone who likes to tinker

The Varity is the hookah where you decide the most yourself. Push-in or screw-on bowl, colour or all stainless steel, a direct pull or a soft draw. As the Squad variant it has four ports, as the Lounge one. With 31 spare and expansion items it is also the model with the largest parts selection.

Moze Tradi: classic without the frills

No diffuser, no sleeve, no extras. The Tradi is the look and feel of a traditional hookah, executed in polished V2A stainless steel. The stem is made from a single piece, which makes cleaning easier even compared to other Moze models. It comes as an M with a 41.5 cm stem and as an L with 49 cm. The only catch: the high-gloss surface scratches easily, so only go at it with a soft microfibre cloth.

AMOTION FUTR: the fullest package

The FUTR is our first mid-size AMOTION hookah and by now a go-to piece for many in the community. 43 cm, soft-touch surface, futuristic graphic design. The real point, though, is what comes in the box: hose, mouthpiece, Perfect Fit seals and bowl are colour-matched and already included. All you still need is a tobacco bowl. It also has the lightest draw in the range.

AMOTION Doppler: the easiest to look after

The Doppler is built for everyone who uses their hookah often and has little appetite for cleaning. Base, sleeve, balls and stem are permanently fitted, and a stem brush, a cloth and a bit of cleaner are all you need. For the bigger round every few weeks you open two screws underneath. The diffuser is removable, and an adapter upgrade turns the blow-off port into a second hose port.

AMOTION Roam: fits in any backpack

Around 15 cm tall, 1.2 kg, €79.99. The Roam was the first AMOTION and is still the hookah we recommend to people who are out and about a lot. Its smoking behaviour barely trails that of a large hookah. As a travel set it comes with the accessories you need on the road.

When we are the wrong choice

Hand on heart, we do not suit everyone. Three cases where you are better off elsewhere.

• You want genuine Russian style. Meaning the tight, hard resistance of classic Russian hookahs. All of our models are built more openly than that.
• Production in Europe matters to you. Then the road leads to the small-workshop brands, and it is considerably more expensive. We carry them in the shop, but our own models are not built there.
• You want pure metal without any plastic. Then the Tradi is what is left from our range, and its look is not for everyone.

Our verdict

You do not buy a Moze or an AMOTION hookah because you simply want any old hookah. You are looking for real value for your money. A long-lasting hookah that still works reliably after years of use, that has convincing features, that smokes well and that looks good doing it.

If you like a classic look and enjoy tinkering with your setup, Moze hookahs will probably make you happy. AMOTION will be your pick if it matters to you that the hookah stands out. In both cases you get stainless steel where it counts and spare parts that will still exist in two years. The draw is open rather than tight across the board, and depending on the equipment you pay less than €200 for it.
