When it comes to plug-in glass bases, there is still a lot of confusion, and we frequently receive questions on the topic. That’s why we decided to answer these questions once and for all — leaving nothing unanswered!
Many of our customers often ask the same things: “Which glass base fits my Breeze Two? Which one fits my Sphere 2?” or “Which size looks better with my hookah? Mini or Large?” These are just some of the questions we receive almost daily in customer service.
Most important: The Size – Mini and Large Plug-in Glass Bases
Plug-in glass bases are generally categorized into large and small bases. On our site, we call the small ones “Mini” and the large ones “Large.” But which base is considered large and which is small?

Left: large plug-in glass base, Right: small plug-in glass base
Since sizes are not standardized — meaning there’s no uniform height — it's difficult to give exact measurements. However, you can consider a height of about 26cm ± 2cm as a large glass base. Small glass bases are about 20cm ± 2cm tall. Not a huge difference at first glance, right? But once you attach a hookah smoke column to the hookah, you'll clearly see how a few centimeters can impact the overall look. Only a few hookahs look good with both glass base sizes. One example where both sizes work well is the AMOTION FUTR.
A small side note about the rule: This doesn’t mean that a different base isn’t possible. Whether a specific model fits a base mainly depends on the dip tube. A large smoke column with a short dip tube can still fit on a small base. Likewise, a small hookah with a long dip tube can fit on a large base. However, these combinations often don't look aesthetically pleasing.
Does my hookah fit into any plug-in glass base?
Plug-in glass bases generally have an inner diameter of 45mm ± 2mm. Only a few exceptions exist where some manufacturers developed their own sizing for certain models — which unfortunately brings only disadvantages for the customer, as it forces them to buy a replacement base from the same brand if the standard one breaks.
This is exactly why all Moze and AMOTION models are customer-friendly and made for 45mm plug-in glass bases.
Since all bases are handmade, there can occasionally be small variations in the diameter of the glass base opening. If your smoke column doesn't fit into the base easily or sits too loosely, there are a few things you can do.
Case 1: The smoke column of the hookah fits tightly into the glass base
If your base doesn’t easily fit into the glass base, you can follow these steps to solve the issue in most cases:
- Moisten the gasket and the inner opening of the base
- Insert the smoke column into the base by “twisting” it in. Twisting prevents the gasket from shifting.
- If it still doesn't fit, you can carefully trim part of the gasket and try again.
Case 2: The smoke column of the hookah sits too loosely in the glass base
Just as a base can sometimes be too tight, it can also be a little too loose! This can happen due to small tolerances in the opening diameter. That's why all Moze hookah models come with two gaskets of different widths.
If the pre-installed gasket doesn’t fit, simply try the second one. If that doesn’t work either (which is very rare), feel free to contact us via email or WhatsApp!
If you're experiencing this problem with another plug-in hookah and don't have a second gasket, here are some tips:
- The Moze Perfect Fit gasket set can help you: This set includes a thicker/wider gasket and a standard gasket. These gaskets are even available in different colors, so you can match them to your hookah. The wider gasket should fit in these cases.
- There’s also a cheaper alternative: you can wrap tape around the base of your hookah and then put the gasket back on. However, this often doesn’t look very good.
Standard Glass Bases vs. Caesar Glass Bases: Where Are the Differences?
If you're new to the hookah world, you might wonder, “Why on earth do these beautiful Caesar glass bases cost so much? What makes them different from standard glass bases?” The reason is quite simple: Caesar glass bases are made from much higher-quality glass material (24% lead crystal) and are handcrafted.
Production takes a long time and involves many steps. The result, however, is stunning glassware that stands out clearly from standard models. Once you hold such a base in your hands, you'll understand why these models are priced the way they are.
Looking for something between standard and Caesar glass bases?
Unfortunately, there really isn’t a true middle ground. There are only standard quality and the very high-quality Caesar models. We've already tried different manufacturers to find something in between, but without success. However, you might like the slightly more unusual shapes of some standard bases, such as the Neo Lux or Mini Drop models. While they are made with standard quality, they look a bit more special!

FAQ: Plug-In Glass Bases for Hookahs
What size should my plug-in glass base have?
For hookahs up to around 45 cm in total height, smaller plug-in glass bases are usually suitable. For larger hookahs, large glass bases are generally used. The average height difference is around 6 cm.
Does every hookah fit into every plug-in glass base?
In general, hookahs with a stem heart diameter of around 45 mm fit into most plug-in glass bases. Since glass bases are often handcrafted, there may be slight differences in neck diameter. These can usually be compensated for with suitable grommets.
What should I do if the stem is difficult to fit into the glass base or sits too loosely?
If the stem heart is difficult to insert into the glass base, it often helps to slightly moisten the grommet. If the connection sits too loosely, a thicker grommet can help. The Moze Perfect Fit grommet set includes different sizes so You can choose the right version.
What is the difference between standard glass bases and Caesar glass bases?
Caesar glass bases are made from high-quality lead crystal glass and are crafted with particular care. This makes them look more premium, reflect light more intensely and often feature more elaborate cuts than classic standard glass bases.
Is there an alternative between standard and Caesar glass bases?
There is currently hardly any classic mid-range option. However, many standard glass bases now offer unusual shapes and modern designs that look significantly more premium than simple standard models.
